Immunobiological Technology Institute (Biomanguinhos)

The unit has a strategic role for the Ministry of Health. Provide to the population essential products for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. It is one of the largest public producers of vaccines in Latin America, which reaches the health centers through the National Immunization Program. Its products protect against yellow fever, polio, meningitis A and C, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), rotavirus, Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) - bacteria that can cause different diseases, meningitis and one of the most serious; and against pneumococcus bacteria, preventing bacterial meningitis, pneumonia and otitis media.

Major services
- Production of reagents kits for laboratory diagnosis (such as Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, leptospirosis, AIDS and diseases caused by helminths, such as schistosomiasis), integrating the network formed by the Health Surveillance Secretary, through the General Coordination of Laboratories and Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, AIDS and Viral Hepatitis.
- Production of biopharmaceuticals that are part of the Exceptional Drug Program of the Department of Pharmaceutical Services, Department of Science, Technology and Strategic Inputs and are used to treat chronic hepatitis caused by hepatitis B and C and severe anemia.
- Graduate: professional master courses in biopharmaceutical technology.
- Course in biosecurity inspector.
