Fiocruz and Butantan Institute
Fiocruz will be one of the hosts of the 25th Annual General Meeting of the Developing Countries Vaccine Manufacturers Network (DCVMN), which will take place in the city of São Paulo in 2024. Together with the Institute of Technology in Immunobiologicals (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz), the Butantan Institute, a body linked to the São Paulo State Health Department (SES), will also be hosting the event, which brings together vaccine manufacturers and promotes debate on strategies to expand the development of vaccines in low- and middle-income countries. The main global public health authorities, such as heads of State, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) also participate in the meeting.

The announcement of the institutions that will host the next edition of the event was made by the CEO of the DCVWN, Rajinder Suri, during the closing session of the 24th meeting, held between September 19 and 21 in Cape Town, South Africa. "These are the two biggest national public laboratories in Brazil coming together to strengthen this network in the search for expanding access to vaccines", states the president of Fiocruz, Mario Moreira.
Fiocruz's vice president of Production and Innovation in Health, Marco Krieger, took part in the 24th edition of the event in South Africa on Thursday (9/22). He highlighted the importance of reconciling agendas with the G-20. "With Brazil assuming the presidency of the G-20 in 2024, it will be an excellent opportunity to work together to pursue a common agenda between DCVMN and the G-20," he said.
"Bio-Manguinhos has already had the opportunity to host one of the network's meetings in 2019 in Rio de Janeiro. It will be a pleasure to welcome our DCVMN partners again, this time together with our friends from Butantan," celebrates the director of Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz, Mauricio Zuma.
The director of the Butantan Institute, Esper Kallás, was also present at the meeting. "It will be a great pleasure for the Butantan Institute and Fiocruz to host the next meeting. I strongly believe that the future of vaccination for public health lies here, in this group of people and companies, in the effort we are all making," commented Kallás.
The event was also attended by important names in public health, such as the general director of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom, and the director of PAHO, Jarbas Barbosa, who participated via videoconference; the general manager of the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), Fabricio Carneiro de Oliveira, and the director of Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz, Mauricio Zuma.
