At Fiocruz and around the world, the relevance of Open Access (OA) is well-known. Open Access means the free availability of scientific and technical digital content to anyone. Since 2014, the Foundation has established a Policy on Open Access to Knowledge, that refers to strengthening the mechanisms of protection and visibility of its scientific production, increasing its impact, and contributing to science development. Due to its increasing commitment to promoting OA, Fiocruz is joining the 2022 International Open Access Week. This is a global event whose main theme is "Open for Climate Justice" and will take place between October 24 and 30.

Fiocruz will host a series of activities and events between October 24 and 27, only in Portuguese (Brasilia time), which will be open to all people interested in the topic. The Week builds up Fiocruz’ commitment to Open Science and Open Access that serve both to share knowledge and to reduce the impacts of climate change.

Check out the themes that will be discussed during the Week at the Foundation:

Platforms for data management, sharing and opening

"Presentation of platforms for management, sharing and opening of data for research at Fiocruz: Arca Data and FioDMP" will be held on VideoSaúde's YouTube on the first day, October 24 at 9 a.m.

Open Access journals and democracy in the digital society

On October 26, at 9:30 a.m., scientific editors will discuss the challenges and prospects of how academics and research institutions can encourage publication in Open Access format to increase the visibility and impact of research. There will also be a presentation of the Fiocruz’ Portal of Journals with new features, designed to facilitate Open Access. In the afternoon, the Postgraduate Programme in Information and Communication in Health (PPGICS) will hold an open class at 2 p.m. with the theme: "Democracy and sovereignty in the digital society".
