On August 12th and 13th, the National University of Colombia (UNAL/Amazon Campus) hosted the 2nd Meeting of Health Researchers of the Triple Border (Brazil-Colombia-Peru). The meeting, organized by researchers of the Leônidas and Maria Deane Institute (ILMD/Fiocruz Amazônia), José Joaquín Carvajal Cortés and Adele Schwartz Benzaken, director of the Institution, aims at strengthening post-graduate programs through partnerships between the universities and institutions of the Alto Solimões region.

“The goal of the meeting was to gather universities and research institutions located on the border areas of Alto Solimões, so as to align efforts of international partnership and creating an agenda of joint work, strengthening post-graduate programs set by Fiocruz Amazônia in a cross-border perspective”, explained Benzaken.

In addition to UNAL and Fiocruz Amazônia representatives, researchers from Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz), LMI Sentinela Project, Institute of Scientific and Technological Communication and Information in Health (Icict/Fiocruz), Amazonas State University (UEA/Tabatinga Campus), Amazonas Federal University (Ufam/Benjamin Constant Campus), Departmental Public Health Laboratory (LSDP - Amazonas/Colombia), Universidad Nacional de la Amazonía Peruana (UNAP), and Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO - Sub-Regional Sudamérica) were also part of the meeting.

The activity’s purpose is to promote an academic and scientific inter-institutional summit about health, aiming at aligning combined efforts of international partnership, mainly including the border area of Brazil, Colombia and Peru. From it, researchers intend to carry out a collaborative work for knowledge exchange in the health and border area, from an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective.

The subjects addressed during the meeting aim at discussing disputes possibilities and upcoming inter-institutional agreements, as well as the elaboration of joint work plans among the institutions: UNAL, Fiocruz and UNAP. In the occasion, the researchers also held a brief presentation about the ongoing health projects on the Triple Border.
