Fiocruz Pernambuco received this week the dean of Universidade Jean Piaget of Guinea-Bissau, Aladje Baldé, for an institutional visit that symbolized the beginning of a cooperative relationship between the two institutions. The meeting included the signing of a mutual collaboration agreement on scientific research and training.

Aladje Baldé was received by the director of Fiocruz Pernambuco, Pedro Miguel dos Santos, and by the heads of the institution's research departments. During the visit, the dean had the opportunity to get to know the laboratories and facilities of the unit, strengthening the dialogue on possible fronts of joint work.

According to Pedro Miguel dos Santos, the partnership already has a base signed by the president of Fiocruz, Mario Moreira, and is presented as a promising project. "The visit marks the beginning of a cooperation, already formalized by our presidency. With our virtual and symbolic nature, we can establish a bond of exchange and learning. We hope it will be a human and fruitful beginning of this relationship between the two institutions", he said.

The dean of Universidade Jean Piage, in turn, reinforced the strategic character of the collaboration, highlighting the challenges faced by the African continent in the field of public health. "I am here on this visit with the purpose of being able to make a strategic partnership with Fiocruz. Our goal is to help Guinea-Bissau in the training of young people and in creating conditions to respond to public health emergencies, since we are located on an almost totally tropical continent, which serves as a living laboratory”, said Aladje Baldé.

In addition to the moments of interaction and planning, Baldé also gave a lecture at Fiocruz PE Study Center. With the theme “Health Research in Africa - Challenges and Opportunities”, the meeting brought reflections on the obstacles and advances in African scientific production, highlighting the importance of international partnerships to strengthen local and global development in the field of health.

The dean's visit marks the beginning of a partnership to join efforts in favor of scientific training, advancement in health research and coping with public health demands, contributing to the promotion of well-being on both continents.
