The head of the STD/AIDS Clinical Research Laboratory of the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases (INI/Fiocruz), doctor Beatriz Grinsztejn, was sworn in as president of the International Aids Society (IAS) at the closing ceremony of the 25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024), which took place in the German city of Munich from July 22 to 26. The IAS organizes the conferences and is the world's largest association of researchers, health professionals, specialists, and activists working on HIV/AIDS themes. Grinsztejn's term runs until 2026.
In attendance were the director of the INI, Valdiléa Veloso, the director of Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz, Jorge Souza Mendonça, the INI researchers who had their work approved at the Conference, as well as thousands of political figures, activists, and researchers from all over the world who attended the Conference. The new president of the IAS takes on her position reinforcing the need to reduce social inequalities as a way of having a more effective global response to HIV.
