At the event, where agreements were also signed in other areas such as communications and energy, Lula emphasized that "Brazil and Spain have a long history of friendship and cooperation" and his commitment to advancing the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The memorandum of understanding between Fiocruz and the Carlos III Health Institute, which is considered one of the world's leading public health centers, aims to deepen cooperation between the two institutions and develop activities related to health, education and scientific and technological development, through technical cooperation and exchange of information, especially in the field of rare diseases, infectious diseases, epidemiological surveillance and digital health.

For president Mario Moreira, "this agreement represents another step in consolidating Fiocruz's science and technology system based on international cooperation".

Expected to last five years, the memorandum also provides for visits and informal exchanges of professors, scholars and managers in specific areas of teaching, research and extension, as well as the organization of conferences, symposia or other joint scientific meetings on topics of common interest.
