At the time, they talked about the several partnerships their institutions have. The Foundation is home to five PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centers and cooperate with the international organization in the production of vaccines, surveillance programs, research and training programs.

Innovation and technology were also discussed as an area of future collaboration, as well as cooperation to help Brazil achieve the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.

President of Fiocruz has also invited the representative of PAHO to participate in the honor committee that will celebrate in 2020 the 120 years of the Foundation.

Socorro Gross is the first woman to assume the position and took office at the end of December, after the retirement of Joaquín Molina, who had been ahead of the international organization for six years. Gross is a physician from Costa Rica with a 30 years career in PAHO/WHO.
